Special Education Teacher

 

General Job Description:

               The Special Education Teacher will provide guidance and instruction based on IEP goals that are academically and developmentally appropriate for each student assigned to the caseload.  This teacher will work in partnership with parents, students, and regular education teachers in accordance with Bloomfield School’s mission and vision in order to promote student achievement. 

 

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Education
  2. Valid New Mexico Special Education teaching license with endorsements
  3. Clear New Mexico PED Background check

 

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 lbs.), reaching, squatting, kneeling and moving light furniture may be required.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  2. The teacher accurately demonstrates knowledge of the content area and approved curriculum.
  3. The teacher appropriately utilizes a variety of teaching methods and resources for each area taught.
  4. The teacher communicates with and obtains feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding.
  5. The teacher comprehends the principles of student growth, development, and learning and applies them appropriately.
  6. The teacher effectively utilizes student assessment techniques and procedures.
  7. The teacher manages the educational setting in a manner that promotes positive student behavior and a safe and healthy environment.
  8. The teacher recognizes student diversity and creates an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self-concept.
  9. The teacher demonstrates a willingness to examine and implement change as appropriate.
  10. The teacher works productively with colleagues, parents, and community members.
  11. The teacher follows board policies and administrative rules and regulations.

 Special Education Responsibilities

 

  1. Maintain quarterly reports and progress monitoring for caseload.
  2. Develop and implement IEPs with measurable goals using progress monitoring.
  3. Collect and report progress monitoring data for all student goals.
  4. Conduct IEP meetings within timelines.
  5. Maintain accurate and compliant special education data. 

Work Environment

        Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After hour work may be required
