JOB GOALS:

To meet the needs of students who are talented by providing advanced curriculum, enrichment units, instruction in process skills, and effective growth experiences.

 

General Job Description:

The Gifted Education Teacher will utilize current strategies and theories to plan, organize and implement instructional strategies for gifted and talented students. Serves as an integral component of curriculum design, student information verification and talent development of gifted students and will support the professional development of gifted and talented teachers.

Qualifications:

1, Bachelor’s degree

2. Valid New Mexico teaching license with gifted endorsement as needed

3. Meet highly qualified requirements for teaching assignment.

 

Physical Requirements:

                Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 lbs.), reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving light furniture may be required and possible Mandt restraint.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Develops program objectives, enrichment units and process curricula for gifted Program.
  • Develops lesson plans, including activities and materials, and implements objectives through individual and small group activities.
  • Serves as a resource person in gifted education.
  • Provides students with opportunities for interaction with community, state and national resources.
  • Monitors student’s progress, keeps appropriate records, and prepares reports on a regular basis.
  • Communicates with students, parents, regular classroom teachers and administrators through conferences and other means to discuss student’s progress and interpret the gifted program.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Maintains professional competence through professional development activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques, strategies, and media, consistent with capabilities of the individuals or student group involved.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy administrative regulations and gifted program plan.
  • Assigns tasks that are intellectually challenging to students.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Maintains appropriate professional appearance.
  • Demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the Principal.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

 

In addition to other duties assigned by the principal, the teacher shall:

  • Demonstrate state teacher competencies and indicators specific to level of licensure by
  • accurately demonstrating knowledge of the content area and approved curriculum;
  • appropriately utilizing a variety of teaching methods and resources for each area taught;
  • communicating with and obtaining feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding;
  • comprehending the principles of student growth, development, and learning and applying them appropriately;
  • effectively utilizing student assessment techniques and procedures;
  • managing the educational setting in a manner that promotes positive student behavior and a safe and health environment;
  • recognizing student diversity and creates an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self-concept;
  • demonstrating a willingness to examine and implement change as appropriate;
  • working productively with colleagues, parents, and community members;
  1. Teach the prescribed courses of study aligned with the State Standards;
  2. Enforce all laws and rules applicable to the school, district, or educational program of the state agency;
  3. Exercise supervision over students on property belonging to the public school;
  4. Furnish all reports as required;
  5. Comply with state approved Code of Ethics of the educational profession.
